writing in polish help.?

When writing in polish i have a hard time on knowing when to use i and y because they have similar pronounciations . so i was wondering when to write i instead of y ?

i is pronounced as ee as in feet, y is pronounced as y like you
i is pronounced like ee (feet), but y is pronounced like i (bit)
i would also suggest polish Y is like english ‘i’ in milk/ and polish ”i” like ee in ‘bee’
