I recently found out a lot more about my genealogy and was able to trace my family back to a small town called Parschuetz in Germany. As it turns out, this is now a town called Parszczyce in Poland, about 50 miles north of Gdansk (Danzig). All of the old census records from my family said they were German, spoke German, etc., but as this is Poland now, would everyone speak Polish in the area or is German still prevalent? From looking online I saw that in 1923 about 95% of the people in the region were of German heritage, has this changed significantly?
Thanks for all the quick responses. It sounds like if I were to go back today, I would not likely find any of my relatives in the area, if any stayed behind to begin with, they likely went back to Germany following WW2. This is very interesting and I hope to find more information about it in the future if old Church records come through. Thanks again!

I was wondering if anybody could help me with singing the Polish Song "Sto Lat".
I don't speak Polish so I'm not completely sure of how to pronounce the lyrics of the song. My dad knows how to sing it but I'm not very good at learning by repeating somebody, I have to actually see the pronunciation written down for me to be able to learn it.
I'm going to meet my Polish relatives in Canada soon for a wedding and I want to know how to sing the song.
Can anybody help??
These are the lyrics in Polish.
Sto lat, sto lat,
Niech żyje, żyje nam.
Sto lat, sto lat,
Niech żyje, żyje nam,
Jeszcze raz, jeszcze raz, niech żyje, żyje nam,
Niech żyje nam!
I want to know how to sing the song in POLISH. I already know what it means in English.

I want to learn Polish (most of my relatives speak it). I am a member of Livemocha and I was wondering if the basic Polish course could substitute for regular classes (don't want to spend money). Please don't recommend learning from the relatives because I've tried. They aren't exactly the best teachers.

I would like to find some of my relatives in Poland. I found some letters that my Grandfather wrote and has the addresses on both of them. He died and we weren't able to get any information. Is there anyway way I can try to find some of my relatives in Poland over the internet. If so, how do you do that?

I'm sending some dear relatives a bouquet and candle for All Saint's Day, and I'd like them to put it on our recently-deceased relative's grave....
To są kwiaty i znicz dla grobu dziadka. Myślę codziennie o was, ale pamiętam zwłaszcza jemu na Dzień Wszystkich Świętych.
Kocham was!

This doesn't have to be perfect (they know my Polish is beginner-level), but they do need to understand what i'm trying to tell them.
If possible, please also write (in English) what you think I'm trying to say. If you can understand what I mean, then my relatives will also be able to!

I'm fourteen years old and about to be a freshman. I've been studying Spanish for about three years and am currently at an advanced level. While still learning Spanish, I'd like to start a new language. My question is: Polish or Russian?
Russian: Waaay more useful, but more difficult, I don't know anyone IRL who speaks Russian
Polish: Polish heritage (I could speak with relatives and friends and get practice) but not useful at all
Please help me, before I invest a lot of my time into this.
Thanks so much.

I have a lot of polish heritage and the a lot of the people in the generation before my parents can speak it. I feel like i should get in touch with my roots. Do think i should do it? i have indian friends who can speak hindi, an i'm kind of jealous. to polish speakers, is it difficult to learn? please give me as much info about it as you can.
I think i can learn languages pretty well; i have been taking spanish for under 2 years and i know it better than the spanish 4 students...but what about polish?
and how would i learn it? my high school doesnt offer it and it wouldnt be feasible for my relatives to teach me

In 1998, I was visiting my relatives in Poland and in my spare time I'd watch Polish music videos. I remember one that had a bunch of guys on a beach, and the only part I can remember was the refrain, which was something like (when said outloud, I can't read/write Polish for my life) "Revelatzia na boutiku, lody lody na patiku"
I think the band was Scanner, but I can't really remember. =/
Can somebody tell me what the name of the song was, or where I could download it? I searched all over Google and can't find it anywhere.

I want to learn how to read/write and to also speak Polish so that I can communicate with relatives over in Poland. Would anyone know of any places in the Southern Mass area that teaches Boston? I am roughly 1/2 between Boston and Providence, RI.
Also looking for books and computer programs that might also aid in my learning.
Thanks!
