I have just started to learn German about a month ago using the 'Hugo in 3 months' audio CD course and I seem to be picking it up very quickly and really enjoying it. So I want to start learning another language and I'm quite interested in Polish. The Hugo series doesn't have a recent Polish course and I've looked on amazon but most of the learn Polish books featured on there seem to have bad reviews and seem really inadequate. I've seen a "Take off in Russian" book and CD published by Oxford University Press, but I know how complex their alphabet is and I don't really want to throw myself into the deep end by learning Russian, at least not just yet.
Can anybody recommend any good Book and CD language courses that might be some help? I'm looking for serious in-depth language learning here as well, not one of these god awful "learn before you land" type tourism books.
I know "W imię Ojca, i Syna, i Ducha Świętego" is "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit" in Polish. But I'm not sure if I'm saying it correctly. Could someone provide a pronunciation for me? Dzieki
I'm an adult adoptee who has learned that my birth mother is 100% POLISH, yet immigrated to the USA in the 1960's from GERMANY before giving birth to me in 1969... I'm curious about many things, but like non-adopted kids, it'd be nice to know where my physical peculiarities MAY come from.... I'd ask it, but I'm afraid of having some PSYCHO tell me it's moronic, ignorant, racist, bigoted, etc. of me to ask and they wont be here for me to bludgeon face to face, when they do, so I've decided to just not ask it for the time being...
Since I'm clearly interested in something germaine to ME, and since so many others ask questions like this that are solely germaine to THEMSELVES, it never ceases to amaze me how many hopped-up, hypersensitive NEED TO GET LAID crab apple ICK's there are online who LEAP at the chance to condemn people for questions relative to sexual identity, nationality and genetics, religion, politics, etc. when it's completely uncalled for? Why are there so many idiots out in the world - and why are they busting chops ONLINE instead of taking care of their problem psyche's with a psychiatric clinic? Bloggers schmoggers - get off line and get to the behavioral health clinic STAT because I'm personally EXTREMELY tired of your lameness and the internet is not a substitute for professional help - in fact, it's THE OPPOSITE.
In short - I'm pretty tired of seeing innocent people ask very natural and normal questions, only to be lambasted & get e-"buckets of blood" chucked at them - you know?
Anyone out there want to join me in an e-bludgeon all morons campaign???? What do you say we write some cool macro that obliterates their id/authentication credentials whenever someone replies to an honest question with any form of "offense" or "shock", or any reply OTHER than something germane to the original question?? We can call it "idiot-proofing the internet, one moron at a time"....

* Do you say 'kodakan' instead of take a picture?
* Do you say 'Cutex' instead of nail polish?
* Do you say 'brown-out' instead of 'black-out'?
* Do you say 'Ay' or "Uy" instead of 'oops'?
* Do you start with 'actually' when you're trying to explain something?
* Do you say 'comfort room' instead of bathroom?
* Do you speak English and when you don't know what to say next, you say 'you know...' ?
* Do you say 'she's on the way' when someone is pregnant?
* Do you say 'ayyss---!' in kolehiyala accent to show any kind of extreme emotion - 'ayyy, shheeettt, nag-split na sila? 'ayysss, shheeettt talaga?
* When somebody gives you a compliment, instead of saying thank you, do you you say 'hindi naman'?
I am a swim instructor and I just got a little girl in my class who speaks only Polish. I was wondering if anyone knew how to say some of these "learning to swim" phrases?
- Kick your feet
- hold your breath
- jump!
- make big arms
-good!
- thank you!
- hello!
- On your back
- float like a starfish!
My dad told me that the only way I can get a German Shepherd puppy is if I call my grandparents in Poland and ask them politely if they could bring back a Purebred German Shepherd for me when they visit next month (they are wealthy people and probably wouldn't even care).
I know how to speak Polish, but I'm not sure how to phrase it. How should I tell them in the nicest way " If it wouldn't be a bother, I want a true gorgeous German Shepherd from Poland, if you guys could ,only if you don't mind, possibly get me one and bring it back for the next visit because it is all I've ever wanted and my parents made this agreement with me???????"
Or something along those lines.. Just something polite would be nice. PLEASE HELP??

I speak Polish well although I was raised in the U.S. I have been around people from all parts of Poland. I have noticed that there is a particular "variety" of Polish that is very "nasal". Speakers tend to overexaggerate "ą" and "ę" and speak with a general nasal quality. They also "clench" their teeth tightly when they speak. This "dialect" of Polish is somewhat difficult for me to understand. It could be regional but people from different parts of Poland speak this way. Perhaps it is a class thing? An age thing? This "dialect" it is much more common among younger people than older people. It is also much more common in women than in men. I see this accent more on tv than in person although I have met people who talk that way. Does anyone know what dialect this is? Thanks.
In the show Chuck Season 3 Episode 14 - "Chuck Versus the Honeymooners" Yvonne Strahovski has a part where she speaks Polish to a punk rocker who is portrayed by her in real life boyfriend. I know she is speaking legitimate Polish, but is he? I don't speak the language so I can't tell.
Did they just give him a specific line to practice or does he actually speak legitimate Polish in real life?
What I'm saying though is the guy Tim Loden of Polish decent. Like just because he was speaking in real Polish doesn't mean he actually knows the language, they could have just given him the line to memorize, even though he doesn't understand.
What I'm trying to ask is: is he of Polish decent, and does he REALLY know the Polish language?
But is he ACTUALLY of Polish DECENT like she is?
I am trying to learn the Polish language. I've been trying to learn for the past 2 years but didn't get too far. Having someone with the same hobby or is willing to help you out can be a lot easier for you to do/learn something.
So I'm looking for a "Polish Buddy."
This is for anyone who can fluently speak polish, is polish and wants help with their english, or just someone who is trying to learn.
Leave your e-mails or something like that!
Thanks you.
Can you please tell me how i can say the following sentences in polish?
"Can i get my tounge pierced here?"
"Are there any piercing shops around here that do tounge piercings"
hey everyone, I don't speak polish but i'd like for you to write with the polish alphabet, a sentense my grandpa used to say! i'm gonna write it phonetically!
it goes as such "matka boska, schfento rowska inet eli tami polakami itam ro bierzej"
hope you'll be able to figure it out! thank you guys! (yn)
Hey, so here's my little story lol. So my girlfriend was born in Poland, and she moved to the US about 8 years ago. She speaks english/polish perfectly, but I have knowledge about any Polish stuff lol. So... a few weeks ago I thought it would be nice to send her a great wakeup txt haha, and she loved it. I just said some really nice things and stuff like that So she likes me doing that every once in awhile now.
The last few times Ive been sending better and better messages, and its getting hard lol. So I thought this time I would say something in Polish to her lol. Nothing to long, just something short and sweet.
So could someone please translate this sentence?
Good morning I love you and can't wait to see you later!
Could someone also tell me how to write/pronouce "I love you" in polish?
he speaks ok english, and i love him and he loves me...any ideas to help make our relationship stronger or to bridge the language barrier? (by the way, google's tranlate tool is awesome..just look up "google translate", we talk for hours that way) Anyone been in the same situation? Any songs or recipes i should play or make for him?
Throughout my 25+ years in the retail industry in the United States, I'm often asked..." does anyone hear speak Spanish?" I had always thought that English was the main language hear in this country but it doesnt feel like
it is anymore.
Over 100 years ago my mother's father came from Poland and my father's family came from Canada. They had a hard time of it but they learned to speak english! They didn't go to the grocery store and say ..."does anyone here speak Polish" or go to an auto repair garge and say ..." does anyone here speak French?" No they adapted and learned the language (at the time) of this country! After all if things are so much better here than in "the old country" they should TRY to speak english.
Some of these people, from other countries, have been here in the United States for over 75 years nd refuse to learn to speak the english language! They bring their grandchildren to the malls or other places to speak english for them.
P.S.
Isn't it funny hat the only thing they DO know is $$
I was looking at an old history textbook and read a little significant part in a chapter about Russia. In the 16th century, Russia was surrounded by the powerful Swedes, Lithuanians, and Poles in the west, and by the Turks and Crimean Tatars in the south. It is significant that when Tsar Ivan IV (ruled from 1553 to 1584) proposed a military alliance and even suggested marriage to Queen Elizabeth I of England, the king of Poland hastily wrote to Elizabeth and begged her to reject the proposition. The Polish king wrote that "up to now, we could conquer him [Ivan The Terrible] only because he was a stranger to education and did not know the arts".
I'm now thinking of an alternate outcome based on the above information. What if Elizabeth actually accepted Ivan's alliance and marriage proposal? What would a Russo-English alliance bring to history? How long would the alliance last? How would this affect England, Russia, and the rest of the world?
i have some old pictures from poland with some polish written on the back. i've tried various online dictionarys and translators and none of them are too reliable, only giving me random words and whatnot. so i was wondering if anyone who spoke the language would be willing to help me translate them.
there are a few of them so we could probably do it by email, but the first thing i want to learn with what "wa pomiął hę" means. it's in quite a few of the photos, and i'm kind of guessing that it's a greeting of some sort.
it is meanttosay something along the lines of "here is the place i told you about, have a good holiday and hope to see you again soon"
cześć Monika tutaj jest miejsce i mówiłem onadzieję, że dobre wakacje, miejmy nadzieję, do zobaczenia wkrótce x
(zaraz do ciebie oddzwqonie). Does it mean that "I Will Call You Later", or something else? Please only people that speak Polish Answer. I do not need a translation website version, because they are not always correct, since there is Text Book Polish and Normal Speaking Polish.
what does this mean?
-nie moge mowic po polsku bo ktos rozumie..
-no to kurwa mow po wlosku!
i think its something like "i cant even write in polish cause she understands" but i don't know the exact meaning.. and i have no idea about the meaning of the answer..
Could you translate what the singer is singing in this video:
Janusz Radek w "Zakochanych w Krakowie
@DR. ROSEN
If you could translate the song in the video when you are capable of doing so I'll give you 10 points on the spot.
You see, I'm doing an essay on the trial of the major German war criminals and I have to do a symbolic parody of one of the Nazi leaders. The only one I could find was of this polish satire of the Nazi leader Hans Frank.
I need help translating the phrase "Till the end of Time" to Polish. Please no google computer translator things, I know those are wrong. I need help from someone who can actually speak and write the language. I found the phrase "Na zawsze". Is that correct? any help is appreciated! Thank you so much!
Jason- The reason i ask is i'm thinking of getting that saying as a tattoo. It's a way my grandparents used to sign off letters/pictures to each other and from what i understand it was a song title or lyric.
could you please tell me what would be the common Polish phrase that means the same as "till the end of time"? I had an old co worker say they thought Na zawsze was appropriate so im just looking for other opinions and since i want it as a tattoo i dont want people giving me weird looks when i go to the polish festivals if it's way off
my girlfriend's cat just passed away and I would like to dedicate something to her, so she can't help me with the translation, since is a surprise. I would like to write "in memory of "the name of the cat", I wonder how to write that in Polish or if there is any other similar phrase I can use for such purpose.
