My dad told me that the only way I can get a German Shepherd puppy is if I call my grandparents in Poland and ask them politely if they could bring back a Purebred German Shepherd for me when they visit next month (they are wealthy people and probably wouldn't even care).
I know how to speak Polish, but I'm not sure how to phrase it. How should I tell them in the nicest way " If it wouldn't be a bother, I want a true gorgeous German Shepherd from Poland, if you guys could ,only if you don't mind, possibly get me one and bring it back for the next visit because it is all I've ever wanted and my parents made this agreement with me???????"
Or something along those lines.. Just something polite would be nice. PLEASE HELP??

Can you read and write in that language?
Were you born anywhere but the USA?
I'm 100% polish, and I was born in Poland but I live in the USA and I can speak polish and kind of read it, but I can NOT write polish.
Well because I came here when I was four years old, so I can read it because I hear the words so much, but I can't write because its confusing to spell stuff since I grew up in an American school
and that is cool that you live in new york city, I was JUST there visiting my parents friends...

I recently found out a lot more about my genealogy and was able to trace my family back to a small town called Parschuetz in Germany. As it turns out, this is now a town called Parszczyce in Poland, about 50 miles north of Gdansk (Danzig). All of the old census records from my family said they were German, spoke German, etc., but as this is Poland now, would everyone speak Polish in the area or is German still prevalent? From looking online I saw that in 1923 about 95% of the people in the region were of German heritage, has this changed significantly?
Thanks for all the quick responses. It sounds like if I were to go back today, I would not likely find any of my relatives in the area, if any stayed behind to begin with, they likely went back to Germany following WW2. This is very interesting and I hope to find more information about it in the future if old Church records come through. Thanks again!

I am doing a project in my business communications class and this answer is pretty difficult to find. I need to know of people in Poland learn or gain knowledge from experience something or from the concepts or philosophies. As well as do Poles learn from asking questions or mastering received wisdom? Any help would be very much appreciated!!

At my grandfather's funeral, a man he had known from his youth delivered his eulogy. Unfortunately, he was very old and didn't speak very clearly. Even worse, he has now also passed so I can't ask him. My great-grandparents were immigrants from Poland and apparently my grandfather's childhood nickname sounded something like /noon-you/ or maybe /yoon-you/ It was phonetically something along those lines. Does anyone who speaks Polish know of any word and its meaning in English that could be used as a nickname that sounds something like that? I don't know if it is even a word with meaning, it could just be a pet name.
Thanks in advance!

I've been in Krakow almost two months ago and realized that there were a lot of antisemitic graffiti on walls. In fact I just looked at the pictures I've taken and found two on them. Who can tell me what "JPG" sprayed on synagoge walls together with a crossed out Star of David stands for? I'd like to know what this exactly means as it looks like an abbrevitation for something.
And what does "Jebac policie Zydzew" mean? Moreover there was LKS. What do these things mean? As I do not speak Polish I'd need some help of Polish people who are familiar with these graffitis as they are to be seen all over Poland.
I can't imagine that "LKS" in this case has to do with soccer because if so, what does the Star or David do inside? See for example here =>
http://www.therightperspective.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Polish_anti-Semitic_graffiti_SM.jpg
And they write the "K" inside the star. (Which is not in this picture but in mine it is)

I speak Polish well although I was raised in the U.S. I have been around people from all parts of Poland. I have noticed that there is a particular "variety" of Polish that is very "nasal". Speakers tend to overexaggerate "ą" and "ę" and speak with a general nasal quality. They also "clench" their teeth tightly when they speak. This "dialect" of Polish is somewhat difficult for me to understand. It could be regional but people from different parts of Poland speak this way. Perhaps it is a class thing? An age thing? This "dialect" it is much more common among younger people than older people. It is also much more common in women than in men. I see this accent more on tv than in person although I have met people who talk that way. Does anyone know what dialect this is? Thanks.

I have eastern europeon in all my familys blood, but I am speaking Polish now and its easy for me to say Im Polish when i know im not. So how would I ever be considered Polish...by just being able to speak it or once its offcial and I am a citizen? Iv been living there for 2 years and I have 5 more years to live in Poland and eventually believe in myself that I am Polish.
So would I be considered Polish by just living there for 7 years and speaking it fluently?

I am part German and Polish, and I want to touch on my roots. Someday I want to go to Germany and study for a semester during college (Spring Break next year I'm going for a week), as well as Poland if I could, and I just want to brush up on the basics--- alphabet, pronunciation, vital vocabulary/phrases, etc.
Does anyone have any good FREE online helping tools suggestions? It means a lot to me, to learn about where I came from, because the rest of my family doesn't really care. :S
Thanks in advanced

I'm moving to Poland and I don't know what stereotypes to encounter. All I could find out is that a lot of Poles think America is good and that majority of us are fat. So If I'm a size 6 does that make me fat in Poland? How hard will it be to find a job if I can't speak Polish yet?

Hey, so here's my little story lol. So my girlfriend was born in Poland, and she moved to the US about 8 years ago. She speaks english/polish perfectly, but I have knowledge about any Polish stuff lol. So... a few weeks ago I thought it would be nice to send her a great wakeup txt haha, and she loved it. I just said some really nice things and stuff like that
So she likes me doing that every once in awhile now.
The last few times Ive been sending better and better messages, and its getting hard lol. So I thought this time I would say something in Polish to her lol. Nothing to long, just something short and sweet.
So could someone please translate this sentence?
Good morning
I love you and can't wait to see you later!
Could someone also tell me how to write/pronouce "I love you" in polish?
Thanks a ton!

I have been casually learning Polish for a few years. I am able to get by when in Poland, but I am not fluent. I know a lot of words, but when I am in the states, I get very rusty and have trouble understanding people who speak Polish to me. (When I was in Poland, I could understand more easily) Anyway, I want to take a beginning French class while still studying Polish at home. Will this be confusing for me or make me mix up the grammar with the languages? (I still have trouble with Polish grammar)
Thanks
Sara

Hello,
I need birth certificates for my great-grandparents. They were born in Poland around 1890 (I have the exact dates and towns where they were born).
(1) Does anyone know how I can obtain a copy of the birth certificate?
(2) What information would be on a birth certificate from this time period?
If it matters, I do not speak Polish.
Thanks!
Hi,
Unfortunately, I'm not in Poland.
Thanks!
Hello,
Thanks everyone for your replies. All three were very helpful.
Kind Regards,

Throughout my 25+ years in the retail industry in the United States, I'm often asked..." does anyone hear speak Spanish?" I had always thought that English was the main language hear in this country but it doesnt feel like
it is anymore.
Over 100 years ago my mother's father came from Poland and my father's family came from Canada. They had a hard time of it but they learned to speak english! They didn't go to the grocery store and say ..."does anyone here speak Polish" or go to an auto repair garge and say ..." does anyone here speak French?" No they adapted and learned the language (at the time) of this country! After all if things are so much better here than in "the old country" they should TRY to speak english.
Some of these people, from other countries, have been here in the United States for over 75 years nd refuse to learn to speak the english language! They bring their grandchildren to the malls or other places to speak english for them.
P.S.
Isn't it funny hat the only thing they DO know is $$

Doesn't speak well English, speaks Polish fluently as he came from Poland. Whenever I call in about a job, they usually tell me that he needs to be fluent/ be able to write in English. Has experience in his Aerospace field for over 20+ years. What should I say when calling in for him?
