Hiya! I work in a nursery school and have a couple of polish children due to start at my setting. We like to try and be all inclusive and use writing in as many languages as possible around the setting. Im hoping that someone who speaks Polish may beable to translate the following into Polish for me:
Planning Book Prompt cards.
1. Where would you like to play today?
2. Who with?
3. Which area?
4. Inside or outside?
5. What with?
6. What will you need in order to do this?
7. Would you like to do this by yourself or with a friend?
I think thats it...I have tried translation websites with previous different languages but it always comes out wrong when the parents of those languages read it and start to laugh!
I think its always better to get it from someone who speaks it rather than a website!
Thanks!

I go to a community college and this girl asks me do I speak Polish. I say yes and then I begin a conversation but it only lasts for ten minutes and all I talk about is my parents from Poland and how I once visited Keiv. She seemed interested but I can tell that my conversation was really boring. She on the otherhand is Ukraine -American. Nevertheless how do I talk to this girl I mean she seems nice and I know for a fact that she is single. Advice anyone.

I have Polish in me from both parents and would like to get a tattoo in the language to honor my family. I want the tattoo to say "Strength lies in family" or simply the word "Strength". I know strength in Polish is siła, but it's short and I'd rather use wytrzymałość if it's the same kind of strength. I don't want to have something about dosage on my skin forever. Is "Wytrzymałość leży w rodzinie" correct? Or should I use rodzina instead of rodzinie? Thanks!

Haha, extra points if you guess my religion!
So, I am a woman, an accountant by profession, always liked school (going back to get my MBA next semester), I am very stubborn, like to read, don't watch TV at all, am very compassionate towards animals, the youngest in the family, my parents are divorced, I play violin and speak Polish and French.
So, what do I look like? What was the first thought/impression you had of me while reading this?
Answer in 30 min, so GUESS!
Religion: Jewish!! Ha! Noone guessed right!
5'8 135 lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes, no glasses, big nose.
Probably a bit boring as some of you summed up.
But I do have a very nice smile (or so I'm told) though it makes me look childish.
I am a European girl!
Who should get the 10 pts?

The language stops at my grandfather because he never taught my father. I've already taught myself how to spell and pronounce Polish words, it even comes really easy to me...I'm wondering if there's a website or something I can go to where there are plenty of Polish speakers who wouldn't mind helping or something. I just want something where I can have a conversation in Polish to help me practice.
;^_^ I should mention that I'm on a budget. Rosetta Stone and traveling aren't exactly going to work..not to mention I can't do much without my parents consent -_-
I'm young but I've taught myself languages before, I'm a natural...but Polish is very hard, which is why I'm requesting a website as such...

My dad told me that the only way I can get a German Shepherd puppy is if I call my grandparents in Poland and ask them politely if they could bring back a Purebred German Shepherd for me when they visit next month (they are wealthy people and probably wouldn't even care).
I know how to speak Polish, but I'm not sure how to phrase it. How should I tell them in the nicest way " If it wouldn't be a bother, I want a true gorgeous German Shepherd from Poland, if you guys could ,only if you don't mind, possibly get me one and bring it back for the next visit because it is all I've ever wanted and my parents made this agreement with me???????"
Or something along those lines.. Just something polite would be nice. PLEASE HELP??

My parents are from Bulgaria, a country in Europe for those that don't know. They were born there and so was I. We came to the US 5 years ago, which would mean that we came when I was 10, almost 11. My brother wasn't even one yet. He used to think he lived in the US his whole life until a few years ago, which he literally did- he doesn't remember even a thing. Now, I speak english very well and my mom is OK, and my dad can speak but he has an accent and mixed up grammar. Naturally, i'm used to speaking bulgarian with my parents but we speak english in public places becasue we all think its kinda rude to yell in a diferent language in the middle of, lets say the school or a fancy concert. My brother couldn't really speak bulgarian until this year, but he understood. I always speak to him in english- it feels natural to me. But when he speaks with my parents, they might be spaeking bulgarian and he answers in english. My brother can't even speak to my grandma well on the phone- my dad has to sit with him and give him hints of what to say.
Now, from time to time we have this problem of whether my parents should just start speaking in english. I'm fine with speaking to my brother and he is to them. But now my parents will never be able to really talk in english- they've spoken bulgarian to each other all their lieves. And to tell you the truth i feel a little akward speaking to my dad in english as well.
We don't want to seem like the just-arrived immigrants becasue i know how frustrating it is to hear chinese people speak loudly on the bus when they have been in the US for over 20yrs and still haven't learned the language. I wish we could all just speak english to each other at home, it would make things so much less complicated... but it just feels akward sometimes. how can we make them less strange at home (which i would really like) or should we just spkeak naturally with english and bulgarian words together. Somethimes my father gets really upset and demands that everyone speak to him in english and when i ask him a question, he answers back in his broken english, "Pleese Speak in english!!!". sometimes i feel that my father wants to become "Americanized" too much, but then, we do look and act like americans- after all we're europeans too... we definitley speak english outside of the house, but should we start speaking it inside as well?? I don't know, have any of you guys ever had that problem???
I see polish and russian people speaking polish/russian in parks and streets, and they don't feel akward. Bulgarian is practically like the two languages combined...
any ideas?
GretcherS, yes, i agree, i'll try to alternate the languages so that we forget neither englidh or Bulgarian. Speaking of German, that is a great example! I used to spak German fluently when I was little and I even had friends who when they first met me asked me when i'm going back to Germany- they thought I was on vacation in Bulgaria.... hehe. anyway, I stoppen speaking and now all i know is a few phrases and I can somewhat vaguely understand simple sentences.

I dont even wanna live in russia or speak russian. no1 even speaks russian so its pointless. And i hate polish even more cuz it has too many damn accent marks and some weird L thing with a slash in it which idk how to say. i've been doing them for a damn year im tired of them why can't they just be happy with my speaking damn english and italian. I hate Russian and Polish. is this even worth it?!!? Are they going to regret this?? am i even going to benefit from this torture??? I already know english and italian why the hell do i have to learn some pointless languages!!! that make absolutely no sense they're like freaking backwards!! omfg

well, my favorite number is 13 and i like to write it on my hand (no, i did NOT steal this from taylor, i did this before i knew she liked 13) but my parents don't want me to write with a pen on my hand. i don't think their entirely convinced about ink poisoning, but they don't wanna take chances. so is there anything i can use to write on my hand that won't absorb into my skin, like maybe nail polish?
well, no i'm not convinced of ink poisoning, but i'm not gonna disobey my parents!

Both my parents were born and raised in Poland, but I was born in Chicago. I guess I'd be 100% Polish since my parents are both 100% Polish, but I was born in the States. Does that change my percent? I can speak, read, and write the language, too.

Well I came to the us 9 years ago so it's just a slight accent and it's mostly just when I day waits with the r sound for example: are and rural
I have tons of English speaking friends and the only place o speak polish is at my house with my parents since they don't speak English
So how can I work on having better pronunciation and getting completely rid of the accent?

My great grandparents and other family moved to canada a long time ago. Both sides of my family are Polish. Both my last names are Polish. My parents both have polish last names but were born in Canada. Me and my brother were born in Canada also. Does this mean I have Canadian Blood in me? Or i'm just a Canadian Resident?
My grandparents speak polish quite often when i'm around them. But i was never too sure if i am 100% Polish or not.
My guess is that i am because my entire family is Polish on both sides.

I very badly want to speak Polish. My grandparents never taught my father, so I'm left with no one to teach in person. It's actually really hard to find a willing tutor online, but I'm almost desperate ;^_^
Anyone willing to teach me?
Sadly, no one is will to pay for it for me. I will have to wait years until I can get a job. My parents won't even give an allowance V.V
*For Rosetta Stone.

Assume that the learner is up to this point monolingual in English and that his parents and family are, too. On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 meaning same level of difficulty, 2 meaning that learning Polish is twice as hard as learning German....up to 10, meaning learning Polish
would be 10 times as hard than learning German.
I love languages. I love the different sounds. When I first heard Polish ten years ago, I was fascinated. it has sounds unlike any I've heard in English.

So my dad is 100% polish, and his parents lived in Poland when they were children. Both of them spoke Polish as their first language, and learned English when they moved to America. My dad never learned it, and my grandparents died when I was 10 years old. I've recently been more and more interested in my Polish heritage and really want to learn how to speak it. Unfortunatly my school doesn't offer it as a class, and my parents think it's kinda weird how I'm so interested in it (so I'd rather just learn it on my own). Are there any websites where I can learn th basics? That has accurate translations? In about 10 minutes I've learn No (Nia), and Przepraszam (I'm sorry) <- I may have mispelt that. But then my mom got home so I had to sign out. Should I just wait and take it in college? I'm currently taking Spanish right now and it's coming pretty easy to me...
Thanks for the Rosetta Stone suggestions. Unfortunatly that costs money, so I guess I will just learn the basics online, and then buy it when I move out in 3 years.

We have some lovely young Polish friends here in the UK.
One of the couples has just had a lovely baby girl and we are going to see them at the week-end.
I would love to take a Polish type of gift to try to make them feel less far away from home.
I have a gift for the baby - some baby clothes.
What would you suggest as a present for the parents?
Is there any restrictions or 'no-no's' in the colour of flowers - red and white perhaps or does that (as in other cultures, signify death? - that would be a BIG mistake!).
Any suggestions gratefully received. Plus a greeting in Polish for me to write in the card would be wonderful.
Thank you so much.

I have a lot of polish heritage and the a lot of the people in the generation before my parents can speak it. I feel like i should get in touch with my roots. Do think i should do it? i have indian friends who can speak hindi, an i'm kind of jealous. to polish speakers, is it difficult to learn? please give me as much info about it as you can.
I think i can learn languages pretty well; i have been taking spanish for under 2 years and i know it better than the spanish 4 students...but what about polish?
and how would i learn it? my high school doesnt offer it and it wouldnt be feasible for my relatives to teach me

any good books out there to help me learn polish? all my family are polish, as such, but my brother or I were never taught the language.
I have my parents to help me learn, thats fine in terms of practice, but are there any decent books aimed at young people or children?
also, any gcse polish textbooks out there? I was thinking that might be a good basis, and would be aimed at young people.
any further information is appreciated

My parents named my little sister "Nelleke" (my family's part Dutch) - my Polish grandfather died when I was very little, but I do remember him saying that that name sounded a little bit like a word or name for a flower in Polish. Does anyone who knows Polish have any idea what flower he could have been talking about?
Any Polish word at all that sounds like "Nelleke" or "Nellke"? We were talking about it this morning and we're trying to figure it out.
