What language program is the Vatican hiding?

How is it that Popes seem to speak so many languages? Just looking at the current and former Popes.

Benedict XVI: German, Italian, French, English, Spanish, Dutch, and Latin, and has a knowledge of Portuguese. Also can read Ancient Greek and biblical Hebrew.

John Paul II: Polish, Italian, French, German, English, Spanish, Croatian, Portuguese, Russian and Latin.

What I want to know is, what language training program is the Vatican hiding?

Tell me :
-Your favourite language
-What Sounds Beautiful
-What Sounds Awful
- least favourite (if any)

i.e.
-My Fav. = Japanese, Thai

-Beauty = Latin, Italian, Thai (Because it sounds cute and the tones sound natural)

-unpleasant sounding = German, Polish (but not Russian -that sounds alright), Cantonese (because it sounds disjointed (to me) But Mandarin feels softer) )

-Least Favourite thing = Hebrew and Arabic (Because when reading the script you have to guess the vowels) or " le + la gender"

I've tried learning both Polish and Russian, and I've noticed that a lot of words sound very similar, but they use two completely different writing systems (Russian uses Cyrillic, and Polish uses Latin, but if you know the answer to my question you probably already knew that...)

Which came first? Did the Poles decide to switch to Latin, or did the Russians decide to switch to Cyrillic?

Just wondering.......

If you need to know I want to learn:
Japanese
Polish
Norweigian
Latin
German
Greek
I don't want to become that fluent, just enough that if I were to be dropped down in the middle of a country, I can talk my way back to an airport. I know I'm going to have to spend money.

I heard Latin helps you with other languages (:

does Latin help you learn polish?

Ive studied latin for 5 years now and am quite adept with it. interested in learning Polish and its Pros and Cons please =)

The quote is from the writings of Saint Augustine (Tolle lege in Latin). I am doing an art display for school and want to write the quote in several languages.

what cd soft ware or book best helps with learning the language

I've been studying polish for a month and have already mastered the declinations, conjugations, imperfectives, conditionals (I was able to do this coz' I used to teach myself inflected languages like latin and german as a child). I've finished 2 polish self-teach books from the library, and now I don't know what to do next. I learn fast, but I lack the ability to plan; I learn much easier if there was a course that's already been outlined, instead of having to take the initiative to make one for myself. I'd like to be able to find a website, or anything that's free, that'll have its own program/structured outline that'll help me talking polish fluently as soon as possible. Or at least someone whom I can chat with, someone who knows how to teach polish with relative degree of structure?

Does knowing Latin make it easier to learn Polish?

I have been thinking about learning Polish and I currently am taking Latin, its only my first year of it but i feel i am doing rather well. But I would just like to know if knowing latin gives you an edge when studying latin. I do believe the Cyrillic Alphabet is a lot like the Latin(Which is also the alphabet for the Romance Languages give or take a few letters)
I knew that Polish wasn't a Romance language, but I can see why you may have thought I didn't know that. Thanks to the both of you

I've always wanted to see the world and explore it and these to languages stand out to me because the music & their culture seem unique.Do you agree with that?

Are they useful to learn?
And to make it easier I'm gonna take to years of Latin in high school...Do you think that that will help?

Next time I log on, I'll be looking for online lessons.

Right now, I'm listening to Polish language radio, trying to pick out what words I know, what cognates are similar to Russian or Serb or Latin or Greek.
