Question: Is nail polish bad for your nails?
I wear nail polish ALL THE TIME but since I'm older now, I have been wondering if nail polish is actually bad for you. I'm not talking about actually trying to drink or sniff it, I just mean wearing it normally. Nail polish remover can remove permanent marker stains right, so if it can do that, what effect will it have on your nails?

It is both good and bad. Nail polish, applied correctly with a base coat, 2-3 layers of polish and topcoat, offers a hard protective coating to nails so that breakage is lessened. However, constantly polished nails become weaker with time. The nails themselves don’t have to be as strong since they are being protected by layers of polish. I like to let my nails breathe for a few days after 2 or 3 polishes. It keeps them from getting too dependent on the extra protection and allows time for conditioning between applications. I think a more expensive base/top coat with less emphasis on the color coat.

I don’t think so. Sometime’s it will turn your nails yellow, but as long as you wear clear underneath that won’t happen. Nail Polish remover sometimes helps strengthen your nails (at least that’s what my bottle says)
