I don’t know about Polish & Czech and how similar are they… However, i can understand a little Russian although I have never learnt it – i am native Bulgarian. Grammar is very different but as vocabulary – Bulgarian & Russian are so close that i can talk to a Russian person in Bulgarian – he will understand me, and i will understand what he answers in Russian.
The only similarity Bulgarian and Russian have is that they both use Cyrillic alphabet while Polish and Czech don’t. All the four languages are somewhat similar in terms of vocabulary as all of them are slavic.
