If I learned Russian, could I learn Polish more easily?

My dad is from Poland and I want to learn a language that would help me in learning Polish from him.
Would Russian be helpful because they are both Slavic languages?

They are very close other. But they have different alphabets (in Russian is Cyrillic) and there are a lot, a lot of words that are the same but have different meaning. Sometimes is so confusing. But if You want to learn Polish, is easier to learn Polish than first Russian and then Polish.
I dunno, didn’t the Russian/Polish language barrier just cost the life of the Polish president and 95 other people?
not necessarily, Polish and Russian are Slavic languages. But English and German, on the other hand, are Germanic languages. and this doesn’t mean that every Englishman speaks German. i speak Russian and i dont understand a word in Polish.
no , POlish is similar to Czech or slovak not russian at all .
