How do Polish communities view illegitimate births?
As far as I understood (and, correct me if I'm wrong), abortion is illegal in Poland although it is performed somewhat discreetly so I guess it's not too uncommon to have a high rate of illegitimate births.
However, I'm talking from a social point of view. Is it socially acceptable to have illegitimate births within your average-Joe Polish families?

People are generally changing their views on this matter.
In big cities it would be a big deal however in the countryside where catholic church has the strongest influence it istill might be viewed wrong but no one would stone you for that you would have fewer friends and would be pointed with fingers on the street
generrally city people mind less and young people dont mind
I wouldn’t say that a single mothers have less friends or are pointed out on a street, people may gossip about it at most in a deep village in the east . Polish people are very flexible in this matter.
My father was born in Poland and my husband in next door Hungary.
These days people are not as strict as in the old days. In small communities like villages, everyone seems to know everyones business so of course a illegitimate birth would be the talk of the town for awhile.
My husbands grandmother on his mom’s side was the product of an illegitimate birth back in the 1880’s in a village in Hungary. Seems his great grandmother was a real beauty with flowing red hair and a nice figure. All the men admired her but a very rich man that already had a wife and family became her lover.
When she was pregnant, she was still offered a marriage proposal from another man even though everyone knew she was having the rich man’s child, even his wife knew.
The rich man had an accident when his illegitimate daughter was still young and his wife cut off all funds to my husbands grandmother. It was a big scandel back in the day but as everyone in the village liked the rich man and everyone thought my husbands greatgrandmother was sweet, young and pretty, everyone in the small village was kind to her and her daughter even after the rich man was killed.
So I suppose it all comes down to who you are and what you can get away with.
