Didn’t he make a joke about being polish when he was inducted to the hall of fame?

"thank god im polish" in reference to a player wearing a kilt to respect his Scottish ancestry.

Yes he does, he can also speak Russian, Ukrainian, Sweden, Finnish and a little Hebrew.

Not that I am aware of. His father Walter spoke Ukranian as his first language though.

No. I mean you can trace peoples roots back into Europe and places like that, but they can’t necessarily speak the language.

And about the name, perhaps he changed it? But I mean he’s Wayne Gretzky, someone would have uncovered that if he had changed it. Maybe he’s a Polish-Poser eh?

Gretzky is from Canada, thats how he ended up on Ottowa for a few years, he wanted to be close to home

Wayne Gretzky is from Brantford, Ontario. Jim Balsillie bought the Phoenix Coyotes last year and moved them to Brantford, Ontario so that Wayne that Gretzky could enjoy coaching an NHL team in his home town, as he currently is. Gretzky has mandating that the Brantford Coyotes only speak in Polish to respect some of his heritage, although unfortunately Gretzky cannot speak any Polish so he brought in Wojtek Wolski, a Polish-Canadian to translate for him. Shane Doan was relieved that no one would be speaking French.
