Why did the Polish never eventually speak German?

There are several languages besides German, sorry for not being more specific in the question. Before 1914 when Germany, Russia, and Austria-Hungary all occupied the modern day area of Poland, were they not forced to assimilate, or did they fight to keep their culture. I imagine it must of been hard to do things while the rest of the country spoke Russian, German, or the several languages in Austria-Hungary, and not Polish... Basically, how did the Polish language survive?
Here you idiots. Maybe this will help you know Europe before the last 100 years.

How do i lose polish accent?

I've been in the U.S 8 years. I speak English really well, however, I still have noticeable accent. It's not really a hard one, but still, people do notice it. When, I go out to the bars or clubs to meet women, I don't think having an accent it an advantage, moreover I think it's a disadvantage. I'm a fun and open person, but I don't feel fully comfortable with it. I know it won't disappear by itself, so any help would be appreciated.

What are some reasons why you like classic rock?

I like how the lyrics are very liberated.
I like how bands didn't have to be commercial yet be successful.
I like how the sounds weren't polished and but had a rough around the edges sound.
I like the psychedelic music where everything came from their imagination.
I like how they didn't use autotune or any synthesizers but actually have talent to play an instrument.
I like how bands wrote their own songs and not have some songwriter write for them.

I speak conversational polish, but a businessman wants to start business with me, and sends me emails of which I can translate about 80% by myself, but there are gaps. Some people want so much per word, but want to translate the entire emails. I need to find someone who can help me come up to speed and understand what he is saying, without paying for entire email translations, as I was laid off from my job recently, and don't have any income yet...

10 pts! Help me polish this poem I just wrote?

Casey's Poem

Walking under moonlight
and nervously I glace,
Feeling anxious tonight
wasting another chance.

Lyrics wanting to recite,
Forgotten when I met her
confiscated by her eyes,
My words becoming a blur.

Tomorrow I want to try,
Regardless I am not sure,
Though I want to deny
even though I don't know.

I promise tomorrow I might
ask her, but not today,
Frozen when she walked by,
Having my thoughts astray.

Here she should be mine,
I'd give it for one thing,
Seeing her majestic smile,
Can't she be that something?
I always appreciate the suggestions from the poetry section of Y/A...so give me your suggestions..

Personally I feel there isn't enough imagery; but I do like the theme, as cliche as it may be.

Hiya! I work in a nursery school and have a couple of polish children due to start at my setting. We like to try and be all inclusive and use writing in as many languages as possible around the setting. Im hoping that someone who speaks Polish may beable to translate the following into Polish for me:

Planning Book Prompt cards.
1. Where would you like to play today?
2. Who with?
3. Which area?
4. Inside or outside?
5. What with?
6. What will you need in order to do this?
7. Would you like to do this by yourself or with a friend?

I think thats it...I have tried translation websites with previous different languages but it always comes out wrong when the parents of those languages read it and start to laugh! :P I think its always better to get it from someone who speaks it rather than a website!
Thanks!

1. The Polish doctor laughed in a manical fashion.
2. Sorry to rain on your parade, but......not going to happen.
3. Col. Mustard,in the library.
4. I heard a scream coming from the basement.
5. I think it was the work of that deranged dry cleaner.
6. The cushions are the essence of the chair.
I am a 58 year old woman who is anything but lazy. This is not homework...just a little creative fun on a cloudy, cold Monday night.
By the way, it is not "your" but rather, "you're."

My Polish friend is having a really tough time right now, and I want to give him some encouragement. What’s the Polish equivalent phrase to "don’t give up", and how is it pronounced?

This is a song I like. I tried translating it on a free online translator, but didn't get much out of it. Could someone that speaks Polish please translate these lyrics for me? It's from a song called "Moj" (mine?) by Goya. It was featured in a video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09iz93ELbe0
Thanks! :)

Lyrics:
Przyzwyczaić się nie mogę, że Cię mam,
choć na pamięć każdy fragment Ciebie znam,
to jak zmienić wszystko wokół
w inny kształt,
czuje, że tutaj dobrze będzie nam.

Mój, mój, mój, Kochany,
tu, tu, tu zostanie.

Tu, tu, tu, zostanie.
Mój, mój, mój, Kochany
tu, tylko tu.

Mój, mój, mój,
Tu, tu, tu.
Mój, mój, mój,
Tu…

I need an accurate Polish translation (for a tattoo)?

Hi there, I am half Polish but haven't spoken the language since I was 3, so my level is so innacurate. For many reasons I have a phrase I wish to get tattooed, once I find a good fluent speaker in both languages, annoyingly none of my friends or family fit the bill.

The phrase I'd like to get is "Family shows (or is shown) through love, not blood."

Thanks in advance, I will vote best answer tomorrow :) Annie x

How do I stay confident in this situation?

I work as a researcher at the #1 news station in the country. I'm working hard to become a reporter, but since english's not my native language,I have a small accent. I've been working very hard to polish my pronunciation as my boss told me it was the only thing preventing me from working in front of the camera. Lately,I have been discouraged because everyone seems to be moving up and I'm struggling to convince everyone I am worth being a reporter as well. How can I stay confident in this cut-troath industry?
