I have been thinking about learning Polish and I currently am taking Latin, its only my first year of it but i feel i am doing rather well. But I would just like to know if knowing latin gives you an edge when studying latin. I do believe the Cyrillic Alphabet is a lot like the Latin(Which is also the alphabet for the Romance Languages give or take a few letters)
I knew that Polish wasn't a Romance language, but I can see why you may have thought I didn't know that. Thanks to the both of you

Sorry for not having the accent mark over the S in the way it's spelled because there is no option on my keyboard to do so just look at the word in the way I have it.

Or do Polish men prefer to do the asking? The Polish boy I like is shy but I like him very much and although I am shy myself, I would love to go on a date with him as we work together and I have never talked to him before.

I'm learning a poem by Maria Pawlikowska Jasnorzewska, and there's a word in it that's not in the dictionary: obalone.
As in: Dzis obalone cudem, jako kula kregiel, spoczelo w snie niepamieci --
Does 'obalone' mean overthrown? And what does the sentence mean?
Thanks a lot!

If you speak polish fluently it would mean a great deal to me if you would help me translate from english into polish the letter i wrote her. I love this girl and plan to marry her one day, it would knock her socks off if i gave her a letter in polish proclaiming my love to her. Please if you could help me. Of course i must ask that if you attempt to help me you understand the language and aren't half assing it. Thank you again and please, if you would, help me.

I am trying to learn some Polish as I am working in Lodz. With all books they seem to go in to detail about the structure of the language and use descriptions that we wouldn't have used when learning english in school. Can anyone please explain in idiots language - what the various case endings mean - eg Nominative / Accusative / Genitive / Dative etc etc. Sometimes I think you need an english dictionary too to be able to use these book!

I'm planning on getting a tattoo, and I'd like it to say "I am loved." - but in Polish.
I tried two different online translators and got two different translations!
One translation was “Ja jestem kochany.”
I just want to check before I get it permanently tattooed ;D

Jacek Dukaj is one of the best modern science-fiction writers in Poland. I've read translated paragraphs of his work and online reviews and I'm very interested.
If you know of any real full translation can you give me a link to an online store or an article about this ?
Is anyone interested in translating some of his work ?

My wife is Polish and I wanted to get her a couple nice books written in her native language to take with us on vacation. If anyone knows of other good books written in Polish please mention them...I just know she loves sci-fi which is why I narrowed it down to Jacek Dukaj. Cheers!

Hi!
I want to learn Polish, but I think if I tried to learn it myself online or at home then I wouldn't get too far.
Does anyone know of anywhere in the Rugby/Coventry/Daventry area where there is a school or a place where I could take Polish lessons? Ideally in the Rugby area as that is the closest to me. This would be in England, UK by the way.
Thanks!

I went to Krakow on Easter. Had amazing time there. Lovely city. I climbed to the Krakow mound. There was a festival kind of thing. Sellers were selling old polish folk costume, accessories etc. I bought a woman hair accessory. It is like a wreith and you wear it on your head.
Here is the question. I do need to learn which region in Poland it'd be used in old times? Is it like daily costume or would it be put on only festival times(dancing) or special days?
I'm college student and study social science. I havent found anything about this wreath (went to library, called conculs, seached on internet but nothing)
I can send the photo of this accessory and mail, if someone want to help me

I'm doing a project in my World Literature class, and we have to do a bunch of things about the country we chose. I picked Poland, and one of the things we have to do is read a book with the Author being born in that country. So, any good authors, Polish or Polish born?

In my High School we have textbooks for both our German and Spanish classes and they seem to be pretty useful. Are there any Polish textbooks like this that can help teach you polish?
Yes, I am learning independently with a little help from my Polish Dad.

I am trying to teach myself Polish. I have this "Polish in Four Weeks" book that has different phrases and stuff and i just want to learn kinda of basic so it works. But the part on how to PRONOUNCE everything is not fully explained. That seems like the hardest part to me. Because they have the same alphabet but way different sounds.
So i looked on line for something better. And they explain is better with better examples and everything. But now the problem is that different web sites say DIFFERENT things. So i am all lost and confused. If any of you have know Polish pronunciation, do you think that you could find me a list of the alphabet and how to say the letters?? One that is the REAL thing? That would be a HUGE help. Thank you!
